Melissa Joseph sought a website redesign to better showcase her artwork, including various series and exhibitions, and to streamline content management. Her goals were to improve navigation, present her work chronologically, and create a seamless user experience with a focus on easy updates. Additionally, there was a need to include press and CV updates, while maintaining a simple and elegant design.
As the UX/UI Designer, I was responsible for designing the full user experience and interface of the website, from the initial concept to the final implementation on the Squarespace platform. I worked closely with Melissa and her team to understand their vision and requirements. My role encompassed wireframing, prototyping, visual design, and the final site layout, ensuring seamless navigation and an intuitive user experience. Additionally, I provided ongoing support for content updates post-launch.
Goal
To create an elegant, functional, and easy-to-update website that allows Melissa Joseph to showcase her diverse artwork and exhibitions in a clear, well-organized format.
Solution
The final design features a clean homepage, a categorized artworks page, and a grid layout for exhibitions and press. I implemented a user-friendly content management system on Squarespace, allowing Melissa to easily update artwork, CV, and press materials.
I conducted a review of similar artist websites, such as Bony Ramirez and Samia Halaby, for design inspiration. I also analyzed Melissa’s previous website to understand the challenges she faced and her specific needs.
I created wireframes and a rough site map to illustrate the proposed navigation structure and layout. The design aimed to balance visual appeal with functional simplicity, ensuring that users could easily access various sections (Artworks, Exhibitions, Press, CV) and date categories with minimal clicks.
